        David S. Schlueter, Esq

        Mediator

As a practicing attorney since 1983, Mr. Schlueter’s expertise lies in the fields of Construction Law, Construction Defect, Real Estate, and Business Litigation. In addition to his extensive experience in both mediation and arbitration, he is well versed in negotiated settlements in complex, multi-party disputes and public works projects. As a founding partner of Northrup Schlueter, he led the firm’s practice in Alternative Dispute Resolution for over 15 years before transitioning to a full time neutral at AMCC.

Mr. Schlueter is both an effective communicator and a skillful risk manager who, by considering the strengths and weaknesses of a case from an objective viewpoint, can strategically position the stakeholders and their counsel for maximum resolution opportunities early in the dispute resolution process.
As a highly trained and experienced neutral, Mr. Schlueter has fine-tuned his skills, developed through years of litigation and mediation practice, for ascertaining the often-complicated agendas in a dispute, whether they be financial, emotional or, as is usually the case, some combination thereof. He assists the parties in finding common ground and reaching compromises that provide for resolutions consistent with their litigation objectives while preserving the dignity of all involved.

Mr. Schlueter represented clients in construction related disputes for over thirty years, including contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, construction managers, and professionals such as architects and engineers, using that expertise as a neutral to understand and effectively communicate with both parties and experts on the technical issues often at the heart of such disputes.

Mr. Schlueter has mediated matters in a wide range of construction, real estate, personal injury, and elder law cases. For Mr. Schlueter, a mediation that does not result in settlement is the exception and his thoughtful follow up in such cases often leads to settlement after parties have further opportunities to do discovery, expert work and consider the benefits of a mediated settlement as compared to the uncertainty and high cost of litigation through trial.

Mr. Schlueter is involved in numerous charitable and civic activities, including acting as Chair of the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County, a member of the Greater Conejo Chamber of Commerce and a supporting sponsor of the Habitat Playhouse Build Blitz for military families.
